Types of Foam
We get asked everyday, "Which is the better foam, open cell or closed cell?" The truth is that the best foam is one that is correctly installed and appropriate for the area. We pride ourselves in excluvisely spraying Demilec's Sealection500 0.5lb Open Cell, Agribalance 0.8lb Open Cell and Heatlok Soy 2.0lb Closed Cell. Demilec is the largest spray foam manufacturer in the world and Ecologic is the largest applicator of Demilec spray foam in the North East.

Thermal Coatings
Many of our projects require that foam be left exposed for whatever reason. In certain circumstances, a building inspector will require that a 15-minute thermal barrier be applied over the foam. Sheetrock does act as this thermal barrier, but if you are unable to sheetrock then we can spray the foam with Andek Firegard Intumescent Paint which has been approved as a 15-minute thermal barrier and ignition barrier over foam. Energy Star Testing and Certification
The state of Connecticut offers rebates through its utility companies, CL&P and UI. New construction and existing houses are both eligible for rebates through a number of different programs. Ecologic Energy Solutions has in-house raters and certified BPI analyst professionals ready to assist in obtaining these rebates from beginning to end. Please give us a call at 203-889-0505 to discuss in detail the potential rebates that you obtain.

Heatlok Soy 2.0lb Closed Cell Foam
Closed cell is much more dense than open cell foam and also has a slightly different structure where the cells are not broken are are full of a special gas made by Honeywell called 245fa. Like open cell, Heatlok Soy is an air barrier, is class 1 fire-rated and doesn't emit any VoCs, HCFCs, CFCs, fermaldehyde or other byproducts. In fact, closed cell is GreenGuard certified for construction use in schools. Due to the closed cell structure, Heatlok Soy acts as a class II vapor retarder at greater than 1.5" and is also incredibly strong which can add to the structural integrity of the home. Closed cell is perfect for areas of high moisture drive including foundation walls, slab insulation, wine cellars, indoor pools/jacuzzis, and houses built on the water. Agribalance 0.8lb Open Cell Foam
Agribalance is a very similar to 0.5lb foam except that it is slightly denser, has a greater r-value and has a lower vapor permeance rating. Agribalance weights 0.8lb per cubic foot and has an r-value of 4.45/inch. It is a tested air barrier, class 1 fire-rated, and acts as a class III vapor retarder at greater than 2" and a class II vapor retarder at greater than 10". Similar to Sealection500, Agribalance does not emit any VOCs, HCFCs, CFCs, fermaldehyde or other byproducts. In fact, Agribalance is composed of 20% renewable materials including recycled plastics and vegetable oils. Click here for a link to the Agribalance 0.8lb Open Cell Technical Information.

Sealection500 0.5lb
Open Cell Foam
Often referred to as half pound foam or Icynene, open cell foam is a semi-rigid foam plastic that is perfect for above grade walls and ceilings especially in hard-to-reach or complicated areas. Sealection500 expands over 100x its size to fully-fill a cavity and eliminate any nooks and crannies. Rim joists, behind electrical sockets and oddly-framed areas make open cell foam a smart choice. Due to it's cushion-like nature, open cell foam is great for sound attenuation. It weighs 0.5lb per cubic foot and has an r-value of 3.8/inch. It is a tested air barrier, class 1 fire-rated, and acts as a class III vapor retarder at greater than 2". Sealection500 does not emit any VOCs, HCFCs, CFCs, fermaldehyde or any other nasty byproducts. Because it is waterblown, the product only releases carbon dioxide as it expands.
