When most people build or remodel homes, they put a lot of effort into making it beautiful but sometimes forget to make it comfortable. The last thing you want is to hear the TV downstairs while your trying to get some sleep in the room next to it! Ecologic Energy Solutions offers effective sound attenuation products that help make your home quieter too.
Some areas to consider are bathrooms, bedrooms, laundry rooms, media rooms, among others.
Mineral Wool
Mineral wool has two primary purposes, sound attenuation and fire blocking. It's uniform consistency makes it a better sound attenuator than fiberglass and easier for our crews to work with. It is easier to cut than fiberglass and better able to fit into odd framing and penetrations to reduce the number of "sound transmission shortcuts". Mineral wool comes in sizes ranging from 1" to 4" but is most typically installed in 3" form where it can fit into 2x4 interior framing and mechanical-heavy ceilings with ease leaving a small gap for greater affect.
Open or Closed Cell Spray Foam
In addition to being a great insulator, foam can also help attenuate sound between floors or common walls. Usually a few inches in the floor or walls help reduce sound vibrations. Foam is a great sound attenuator because it can fill up every nook and cranny, preventing gaps that could be shortcuts for sound transmission. Spray foam is also great underneath stairways, around waste lines and around duct work.
Ecobatt Fiberglass Insulation
While we only recommend spray foam insulation for the thermal envelope of a house, there are a number of appropriate uses for batt insulation. We currently offer Ecobatt Insulation by Knauf Insulation with R-values ranging from R-11 to R-38. Fiberglass insulation can be a good alternative to spray foam for sound attenuation in between interior walls and floors. Ecobatt insulation is formaldehyde-free, VOC-free, HCFC and CFC-free and is one of the greenest and best performing fiberglass insulation's on the market. Click here for more information on Ecobatt.
