New construction houses in CL&P and UI territory are currently eligible to obtain rebates for building energy efficient houses. To get these rebates, the builder must hire a HERS rater who will help you through the rebate process. Ecologic Energy Solutions is proud to have an in-house HERS rater who works closely with both UI and CL&P to help you get the maximum rebate for your project. Please give Jeremy a call at 203-889-0505 to discuss rebates and fees. Potential rebates include:
- Energy Star Certification ($500 to $3000+ depending on the efficiency of the home)
- High-performance insulation (up to $2,395)
- Geothermal/HVAC (up to $1,500)
- Energy Star HVAC/Ductless Heat Pumps (up to $500)
- Natural Gas Hot Water System (up to $300/heater)
By adding spray foam insulation to your existing home, you are eligible to receive a tax credit of 30% of the insulation cost up to $1,500. Anybody can apply for this if the work is done in 2009 or 2010 but expires on 12/31/2010. You can only apply for this credit if the work is being done on your existing primary residence.
Existing homes in Connecticut are eligible to participate in the Home Energy Solutions program offered by the utility programs for a nominal fee of $75. A HES crew, who are BPI certified, will come to your house to perform a blower door test, combustion/appliance test, basic air sealing, and at the end discuss your house's performance, ways to improve it, and will provide a list of rebates available to help fund the upgrades. The biggest bang for the buck is the insulation rebate which provides $1/sqft for wall and ceiling/roof insulation if the work is performed within 45 days of the audit. If the work is done after that time, you will only be eligible for $.50/sqft.
